Discover Sanremo

Sanremo has lived through great eras of expansion: in the Middle Ages, between the 17th and 18th century and then during the growth as “ville de saison” (holiday town) between the 19th and the 20th century. Every phase has left important monuments and an endless series of works of art. You only have to think about the great area of piazza San Siro with its collegiate church, baptistery, the oratory of the Immacolata, the complex of the rectories. A remarkable succession of Baroque churches reminds of the importance the city had during the 17th and 18th centuries, thanks to the riches provided by the cultivation of citrus fruits and olive trees. Then there is the sanctuary of the Madonna della Costa, a precious monumental jewellery box that dominates the city. An interesting archaeological museum, the municipal picture gallery and the Rambaldi di Coldirodi’s, a well stocked library: everything contributes to give Sanremo a modern look in the field of cultural heritage of the tourist resort created a century ago.
